If you are thinking about getting your NSW boat licence, you might be wondering what actually happens in the course. The good news is that it is not as scary as many people expect.
At SisterShip Training, our face-to-face boat licence sessions are friendly, practical, and designed for everyday people. You do not need to arrive as a boating expert. You come to learn.
We start with the important basics
The course covers the key information you need to understand before getting on the water, including safe boating, rules, navigation marks, and what your responsibilities are as a skipper.
Some parts are straightforward. Some parts take a little more explaining.
Buoyage, lights, channels, and rules of the road can confuse people at first. That is normal. We slow it down and teach it in different ways so everyone has a fair chance of understanding it. We all learn differently, so we cater for everyone’s needs. And we have fun too!
You can ask questions as you go
If something does not make sense, you can ask. If you need it explained another way, we can do that. If you have a real boating example from your own life, we can talk it through.
We use real examples
Boating is practical. So the training should be practical too.We use examples from real boating situations, not just textbook language. We talk about what you might actually see, what you need to think about, and how to make safe decisions on the water. The aim is to build understanding, not just tick boxes.
You leave clearer and more confident
Everyone learns differently. Some people are confident from the start. Others are nervous. Both are welcome. Our goal is to make the session useful, clear, and enjoyable. People often tell us they were surprised by how much they enjoyed our course. That’s important because when learning feels less stressful, the information tends to stick.
