Marine Rescue NSW has just released a powerful video showcasing the incredible work they do to keep us safe on the water. Watching it brought back a flood of memories for me, as my connection with Marine Rescue NSW is deeply personal and continues to shape the work I do today.
Honoring My Marine Rescue NSW Journey and Collaboration
Years ago, I had the honor of serving as a Marine Rescue Skipper. This role placed me at the helm of countless rescue missions, from assisting Sydney to Hobart vessels to helping recreational boaters who found themselves in difficult situations. I’ve faced challenging scenarios, including towing boats over treacherous bars—an experience that requires not just skill but a steady hand and nerves of steel. There were times when I pulled vessels off sand bars and towed in boats that had miscalculated their fuel, often in less-than-ideal conditions.
NSW Marine Rescue Training
The training and assessments I underwent with Marine Rescue NSW were rigorous, and passing them was a significaant achievement. But more than the certifications, it was the letters of thanks and appreciation from those I assisted that truly resonated with me. These experiences, coupled with my time sailing around the world and working on commercial boats internationally, have profoundly shaped who I am today.
Boat Ready
My time with Marine Rescue NSW wasn’t just about responding to emergencies; it was about embodying professionalism, dedication, and the drive to ensure everyone on the water is safe. This passion drives me in my current work, where I strive to produce boat-ready mariners equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to handle the unpredictable nature of the sea.
Collaborations
Collaborating with Marine Rescue NSW in training today allows me to give back and stay connected with an organisation that remains close to my heart. I am incredibly proud of my journey with Marine Rescue NSW and the opportunity to continue contributing to their mission. Watching their new video reminded me of the vital role they play and why I’m so committed to this field. Thank you, especially, NSW Eden in supporting my student and endeavours!
Gratitude
As I look back on my experiences and continue my work, I’m filled with gratitude for the opportunities I’ve had and the lives I’ve been able to impact. Being a Marine Rescue Skipper was one of the most rewarding roles of my life, and it’s an honor to continue supporting Marine Rescue NSW and the incredible work they do.
