Julie Porter, is a passionate registered nurse and sail-cruise tour operator, has found her perfect harbor in Hobart, Tasmania. Just a stone’s throw from her workplace within Tasmania’s Statewide and Mental Health Service, Julie operates the historic (small) tall ship SV Rhona H alongside her partner, Charles Burns. In 2014, they established Heritage Sailing Tasmania, a not-for-profit venture combining traditional sailing, conservation, and health promotion.

With Hobart’s scenic waterfront as their backdrop, Julie and Charles offers traditional sailing tours in Tasmanian waters. Their commitment to marine conservation, mental health promotion and sustainable tourism earned them accolades, including the title of Sailing Company of the Year for Australasia and Asia in 2017, Sustainable Tour Company of Hobart in 2018, Tasmanian Volunteer of the Year (2023) and most recently they were recognised as finalists in the Tasmanian Tourism Awards.

For Julie, SV Rhona H is not just a ship; she’s a cherished legacy and a way to remind everyone to embrace the present moment even during the most challenging times.
