A small household moment can sometimes reveal more truth than any long report or tidy checklist. That’s why we created, The Skippers’s Desk!
Ice Cream Stealth
Noel announced that he was heading for a shower and bed, offered one last goodnight and stepped away with the air of a man who had clocked off for the night. The house settled. I took the quiet window, measured out a secret portion of ice cream and felt quite certain I had executed the move with proper stealth.
Caught Mid-spoon
Noel drifted back in at precisely the wrong moment and caught me mid-spoon.
I recovered, carried on, and later opened the laptop to finish a short piece of work. It took only a few seconds before Noel appeared again, as if some internal radar had sounded the alarm that I was up to something useful.
For goodness sake. #caughtout
Maritime Standards
The whole scene lasted only minutes, yet it carried a reminder that is easy to overlook. Maritime work demands structure, precision and discipline, and at SisterShip Training we hold those standards firmly. Even so, none of us are machines. We are people with late-night tasks, half-finished thoughts and the occasional ice-cream raid that does not go according to plan.
The Ordinary Truth – We are just human
The seriousness of our training sits alongside a very ordinary truth. The people delivering it are human. We work hard, we stay focused and we also laugh at ourselves when life throws in a small detour. That balance keeps the work steady. It keeps the teaching real. And it helps our students see that professionalism and personality can share the same deck without trouble.
More reflections will follow here from time to time. There is always something worth learning, even in the smallest moments.

Good for you turning that moment into a lesson to share. I’m still sticking with the ice cream is no crime, opening up the laptop is though.
My thoughts, next time be in the moment with your ice cream… Carpe Diem 🙏
