Once you have completed the online course and practice quizzes, you can book your Marine Radio assessment using our online booking system.
The Office of Maritime Communications requires two to three business days’ notice to set up each assessment. For this reason, assessment places close ahead of time.

How the process works

Study online at your own pace
Most students complete the course and practice quizzes in around four hours. -
Book your online revision and assessment session
You will choose a date and time through our booking system. Your booking confirmation includes the Microsoft Teams meeting link. -
Licence application
After your assessment, we handle the licence application for you.
We will ask you to provide:-
a passport-style photo

a completed application form (we send this to you via email)

the $97.50 application fee payable to the Office of Maritime Communications

Practical assessment information
We have taught and assessed hundreds of students for Marine Radio licences over more than 20 years. Our trainers have extensive recreational and commercial experience using both VHF and HF radios. We know exactly what is required to pass, and we keep the assessment straightforward and calm.
During the practical component, you will be asked to:

answer practical questions about marine radios

make a Mayday call using a script (if preferred)

demonstrate an understanding of radio calling procedures

About the written examination
As outlined by the Office of Maritime Communications:

Exams are multiple choice and closed book
-
Duration is one hour for the LROCP qualification
-
Duration is 30 minutes for the SROCP qualification

A pass mark of 70 percent is required
