This course prepares you for the Australian Marine Radio Operator Certificate of Proficiency. Complete the online learning at your own pace, then book a live assessment session conducted by an accredited assessor. Once passed, your licence never expires.
Marine Radio Certificates Offered
We offer training and assessment for both marine radio operator certificates:
SROCP – Short Range Operator Certificate of Proficiency
Required for VHF marine radios. Common for coastal boating and recreational vessels.
LROCP – Long Range Operator Certificate of Proficiency
Required for VHF, MF and HF marine radios. Suitable for offshore and long-range vessels.
Both certificates are lifetime qualifications with no renewal required.

Marine Radio Assessment Information
The assessment is conducted online by video call and includes:
For SROCP (VHF):
• 30-minute multiple-choice exam
• Practical radio procedures assessment
For LROCP (VHF MF HF):
• 60-minute multiple-choice exam
• Practical radio procedures assessment
Assessments are supervised and conducted in accordance with OMC requirements.

MMSI Numbers and Compliance
A marine radio licence is required to obtain an MMSI number for Digital Selective Calling. MMSI applications are free and processed through AMSA once your certificate is issued.
Our courses meet ITU standards and are issued through the Australian Maritime College and Office of Maritime Communications.
